The City of Buffalo DPW has suspended sanitation pick up for Wednesday due to air quality, city officials announced.
City officials are instructing residents to leave their totes out and crews will resume collection when conditions allow.
The news comes as intense Canadian wildfires are blanketing the northeastern U.S. in a dystopian haze, turning the air acrid, the sky yellowish gray and prompting warnings for vulnerable populations to stay inside, leading to U.S. authorities issuing air quality alerts.
