Three-time past champion Miguel Angel Jimenez was tied with Ricardo Gonzalez at 7-under 65 after Day 1 of the Mitsubishi Electric Championship on Hawaii Island on Thursday.
Jimenez, the winner at Hualalai Golf Course in 2015, 2020 and 2022, is one of eight past champions in the season-opening event on the PGA’s Champions Tour.
Gonzalez was announced as the Champions Tour's 2024 Rookie of the Year just prior to his round.
Stephen Ames and Alex Cejka were one shot off the lead entering the second day of the three-round event Friday.
Defending champion Steven Alker was in the middle of the 42-player pack after shooting 2-under 70.
The tournament boasts a $2 million purse this year, with $340,000 to the winner.
